Naw, man It's cool

  • Aug. 23rd, 2008 at 7:38 PM

Hello hello.
Desperation is a dirty slut. We all look down on it,  we make fun of it , and we absolutely refuse to be it.  And yet, every man, woman, and lovestruck sitting at home looking through Facebook pictures thinking "man, i wish I could've been there last night is completely guilty of being desperate at one point or another.
Leaving a note under the windsheild, texting...all are fatal. And knowing that you're guilty of being desperate is a shameful and embarassing thing that won't go away unless you don't talk to the person.
Being almost a year out of a relationship, with hookups and a couple of dates sprinkled here and there, the tide needs to turn towards a serious thing...at least a second date that does not turn out to be a dutch meeting at Starbucks where he tells you it's not gonna work out because "he respects you too much."
The acts of desparation are brought on by oneself, like an extra brownie or buying a too expensive pair of jeans. You know it's a bad idea, you'll feel good for a second, and then you find yourself with your foot in your mouth thinking "why the HELL did I just do that?"
The horoscope said "put your feelings out there, get them known." I'd like to think it would have a positive result, but that's why horoscopes are so general.
Is there a Morning After pill for desperation? This is a consequence I don't want to live with.

Windex and Sponges

They're what I need in order to clean up my relationships. What with a new school year starting up and the dragons of college apps, schoolwork, friends, and boys breathing fire down my neck, it's tough to get through it all. I suppose it starts with some cleaning up of the peculiar messes made over the summer.
Today at an orientation for the upcoming Freshman, I saw my Europe trip flame standing with my post-Europe trip flame several cliques away from me.
It's ironic that they're best friends. I'm sure they talk about it when the subjects of music and boredom are pushed aside in the Hookah bar. What I still cannot comprehend is the trouble that I'be gone through just to see post-Eurotrip flame. He's one of those genuine "nice guys," you know, the one girls can't get enough of being their best friend with and the one all the homophobic guys admit they'd go gay for. So WHY, I ask, is the task of meeting up with this Mr. perfect so daunting?
Blame it on fate, if you ask me. Or karma. Kobe Bryant couldn't have had a bigger rebound than what I was for this guy. Now he's confused, but wants to keep me around, you know, in case he gets over his past and wants to move on.
Do I mind it? Maybe, but when you're looking for something, and even if it has a little asterisk attached to it, you'll keep it for a while.

Lil' Wayne - I'm Me
-----------------What does the greatest swimmer in the 2008 Bejing Olympics listen to right before he takes off in a wave of gold? Why, Weezy of course. Confirmed reports have surfaced that Micheal Phelps, the sultan of the stroke, listens to I'm Me, Lil' Wayne's unabashed ego trip on Tha Carter III.

Exuding a confidence reserved only for the greatest players in the game, "I'm Me" defines the ultimate contender, from school swim meets to the Olympic legends. And for an athlete whose Ipod headphones are as part of his uniform as a swim cap and goggles, Phelps could only hear the sounds of victory.

"Yes I am the best/and no I ain't positive I'm definite/I know the game like I'm reffing it"

The Dresden Dolls - Coin Operated Boy
--------------At some point in the never ending confusion of love, one wishes for the infallible prototype. The Dresden Dolls' singer Amanda Palmer wants it all, in dream-laced vocals surrounded by cabaret instrumentals. Coin Operated Boy has a tempo which slows and regains energy, as though Palmer is reloading the song with more and more money to work the way she wants. The song is from the Boston duo's 2005 A Dark Cabaret.

After two weeks at a journalism program at American University, I will finally be heading home. I've met some absolutely incredible people during this experience. I'll never forget the A Crew and how much they made me feel special. I love you Jesse, Daniel, Justin, Liz, Melissa, and Katt!
Check out this band called Swift Technique. They're amazing.

Musings

Sugar Sugar Ray Ray Ray
----Go Minor. The best things about music include the switch from major to minor. You can listen to practically any zen or relaxing music and absolutely fly away with a minor switch. Maybe because the drop evokes a sense of yearning emotion in the listener. Take for example, Aqualung's Brighter Than Sunshine. The major to minor drop when the lead singer croons "Your love burns brighter than sunshine/And suddenly you're mine." The violin arrangement takes flight, coasting high upon the clouds and then gracefully falling and rising. Just a thought.

Cheerios and headphones

Hey strangers,
It's been a crazy month. My tour of Europe was absolutely incredible, one of the most unforgettable events of my eighteen years. In brief, I travelled to London, Paris, Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, and Greece. The scenery was breathtaking - one minute I'm standing in a bright red phonebooth in London, the next I'm tossing a coin and making a wish in the Trevee Fountain.
At the moment I'm in D.C. where I'll be taking a Journalism and Communications course at American University. I'm going into the fight blind but hopefully I'll throw a couple of winning punches and meet some fantastic new people and improve my writing.

Interstate Love Song- Stone Temple Pilots
----------------A silent movie character thrust into the subwoofing sounds of reality? That's an experiment tested in Stone Temple Pilots video for their blues riffed Interstate Love Song, an emotionally nomadic wanderer through deserts of what was said and what will never be. Catch this album off of 1994's Interstate Love Song.

The Magic Position- Patrick Wolf
-----------In an eclectic blend of strings, xylophones, and horns, Patrick Wolf has a cacaphonic orchestra surrounding this proclamation of adoration. The melody is filled with beautiful innuendo, lifted like a red balloon and popping with suggestively enjoyable lyrics encompassed in a violin arrangement. Get this track from The Magic Position, Wolf's 2007 release.

It's you
Who puts me in the magic position, darling now
You put me in the magic position
To live, to learn, to love in the major key

Me Myself and I -Beyonce

----------In this personal enlightenment, this Destiny's Child grows up in a stark surrender to hurtful events beyond her control. The maturity in her words "you will see the sun come out again," finds security in time and healing, a bittersweet truth rarely but wonderfully shown on her platinum R&B Dangerously in Love. A cannon which shot her into the universe of solo stardom, Beyonce shines being "Me Myself and I."

Finished driving Bohicket to Boris and Natasha's, one of my favorite local haunts in Central. B&N is what Urban Outfitters would be if they had a prom dress shop, along with a cornicopia of other threads and accesories. I listened to all of Something Corporate's North on the way over, to mull the events of the past few nights in my head.
Having deep heart to hearts with a long lost friend on the floor of your dad's office at two in the morning isconfusing yet comforting at the same time. The greaetest feeling in friendship lies in the core of communication, and how comfortable you are in your own skin around the other. We discussed everything, from college applications to graduation, and our favorite bittersweet subject, our exes. No matter what the conversation is about - be it Liverpool, indian cuisine, or the latest Weezer album - our thoughts always connect to the relationships - the friends- we lost.
Hopeless romantics are not good at random hookups. The criterion of many romantics include fireworks, rushing waves of passion, and the most complete surrender to the spirit of intimacy. Without these, the act is cynical and conversational, a whole "why are we doing this again?" complex that's never legitmately reasoned. In the end, most compare the experience to their past relationships, recognizing the difference between superficial desire and the unconditional, familiar, glorious heaven that is intimacy with an adored significant other.
Breakups are in the same family of grieving, a similar classification involving the healing elements of time, tears, and trust in loved ones. But when the memories won't subside into the past, we are continually obsessed with what we believe is a better life. Therefore, as F. Scott Fitzgerald would say "we must beat on, boats against the current, borne ceaslessly to the past."

Feel it Boy- Beenie Man feat. Janet Jackson
---------Electro-reggae never sounded so smooth. In this Jackson/ Beenie Man collaboration, the message is reassuring: "It's alright/If you feel it boy (Feel it, feel it)/You can feel this feelin' all around the world/It's ok/If you feel it/Forget everything and everybody/Boy, let's just have a party, me and you." Playful and innocent, this sip of strawberry lemonade hip hop can be found on Now That's What I Call Music Volume 11.

Before I go touring Europe (a HUGE deal, considering I've never stepped my size 7.5 feet outside of the country), it's crucial that I pack under 50 pounds of weight in my suitcase. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but since I'm travelling for twenty days, I want to pack EVERYTHING a fashion-savvy girl would need to not look completely like a tourist.
Aside from the cable lined interiors of ugly nylon purses, the "secretly" tucked away wallets that are"pickpocket proof, GUARENTEED!", and the head turning swishy windbreaker in a pouch, my dear father Safety Man insists that I carry a flashlight, my hiking boots, and an enormous backpack that can hold seven bodies. Looks like I'll be stylin' and profilin' my way across the pond.
